  • G2 muffler rattle

    Hi

I have a loose baffle in muffler. Does anyone have any ideas how to make a repair. Iam up for any ideas.

    Thanks Scot

There are several avenues to explore. One approach involves cutting along the factory seam to gain access to the interior, allowing for a thorough assessment of the damage and facilitating repairs. Additionally, if replacement becomes necessary, alternative options such as ATV or motorcycle exhausts can be modified and used, although these alternatives can produce louder exhaust notes compared to the original muffler design. Consider other years for a compatible replacement muffler like the yamaha G8 or G9. If the baffle is rattling around inside the muffler but still intact, you could try inserting a metal rod or wire through the muffler outlet to push the baffle back into place.

These mufflers produce needed back pressure for the engine. Back pressure refers to the resistance encountered by exhaust gases as they exit the engine and flow through the exhaust system. While some back pressure is necessary in your yamaha for optimal engine performance, too much or too little can have adverse effects on efficiency and power output. Achieving the right balance of back pressure is important. Excessive back pressure can result in reduced engine performance, increased exhaust temperature, and potential damage to engine. Conversely, insufficient back pressure can lead to a loss of torque and power, as well as poor fuel economy.
