throttle switch

i have a yamaha g1 , and rats have had fun with this thing. im trying to get it to turn over but i have nothing right now went through and fixed most wires that i could see. but was wondering about the throttle stop solinoid. Is the solinoid supose to stick out when you push the gas or does it work as a ground stop. and ideas and how tos on how to chase down and diagnose this cart would be great.
