  • How To make a 79-81 Yamaha G1 solenoid

The solenoids for these years are no longer made and none can be found used. You can use the 82-89 G1 solenoids with a little modification. Lengthen some wiring and make jumpers for the solenoids to tie them together. Works great. I hope this save some time for others. wade

But how exactly do you do that?

Can you just use some automotive solenoids (from a ford, etc)? They are 12V, but can you run them off just a pair of batteries? You can pick these up for cheap at any automotive store.

You can use any solenoid you like as long as it's rated for continuous duty and in the voltage and amperage you need.

I am in the same boat. I have two rebuilt kits and am pretty sure that I can save one but the other is rusted inside and fell apart. If anyone has a used or rebuildable 79 solenoid, I am in need. if there is a way to modify or upgrade, please share.
