Engine replacement for FE290/FE350

There has to be someone out there that has done this before? I want to replace the stock FE style engine in a 1999 ClubCar Model DS. Anyone out there have any ideas? For the price of a new FE 350 you can almost buy a new cart. Looking for something in the 13 to 16 hp range, thanks for any ideas to share. ChopperDoc

Unfortunately you are out of luck, because Honda makes an engine that can fit however it is also around the same price as a club car engine. Check on ebay for some engine deals though.

depends on YOUR skill level. i replaced the engine in one with a briggs and stratton. was about 9 or 10 hp. had to make a mounting plate and redo the throttle. also had to make an adaptor for the tapered shaft on the clutch. worked great and as far as i know, its still working.
