  • Carbon fouled spark plug?

    84 gas club car has constant carbon (dry) fouled plug. Runs good cold and after 3 minutes won't do much at all. Has new carb., fuel filters, fuel lines, cleaned tank, new gas, new air filter, new exciter and ignition coils. Running the recommended spark plug. Could it be a air/fuel mixture problem? Also, have a fuel pump kit and new muffler on order.

    That's the only thing it could be. Set your air/fuel mixture jet on your carburetor to 1.5 turns. If the problem stays, keep adjusting .5 turns out until the problem goes away. If you are working with an aftermarket carburetor, they are not honed to exact spec and may give you trouble when setting the fuel air mixture.

        If it runs good cold, I would think that the muffler is your biggest issue and after you ratio is set, adjusting on the A/F mixture is not going to do the trick.

          Not the muffler. Just put a new one on. Air / mixture jet / screw...location on carb?

            Sorry, I didnt read your complete post when replying just the title. If it ran good when cold, what does it do when it warms up? Does the engine continue to run? Does it have no thrust or power? You might want to run a compression test after you warm up the golf cart.

              Bogs when it is warm. Engine will not turn off with key switch...continues to run. No power up a slight grade. Just checked compression with better tester....110 psi cold and 110 psi hot.

                Bogs when warm, is usually not an easy thing to diagnose. Make sure the easy things are ok, like the intake is tight and completely sealed. All gaskets are in place. You have a new correct spark plug with the right gap. It is getting enough spark, and that the carburetor is completely clean or brand new, the gas is new and there are no pinholes in the gas lines. Finally, that the crank breather is in place sealed up. If everything is fine, Id then start to look at the inner workings... IE the valve settings, crank seals, piston rings, valve seals. Are you burning any oil what so ever?
