  • Carburetor Size Issue

I have a 1996 EZGO with Robin EH29C engine. We were having issues with it slowing as we were driving, then it stopped completely. The engine would run, but would not "go". We removed the carb for cleaning. Either the pin that holds the float broke while riding, or was broken while cleaning it. We replaced the old pin with a small nail the same size. Reset the float. Replaced spark plugs, hose from fuel tank to pump, starter belt, changed the oil, and replaced small hoses for vents on side of carb.
The cart now runs, but doesn't seem as strong uphill and is very noisy. A friend said the carb is for a 350cc and we have a 295cc. How can you tell what size carb you have? Also, we could not remove the main jet in the carb. Any tips on removing for cleaning? Any suggestions are appreciated!

First of all the pin that holds the float must be the exact same diameter or the float needle and seat will not work properly. Removing the main jet can be a problem as with the idle jet and needle jet.The proper screwdriver is always best, but if you have striped the slots your pretty much done Usually you can fill the float bowl with fuel injection cleaner put it back on and let it soak for a day or two, same times a little heat is necessary but make sure no fuel or solvents are in the carb. IF you cannot get the jets out, purchase a number drill set and carefully ream out the tiny hole not removing brass. I doubt there is any real difference in the 2 carbs, neither one is a performance carb. One of the biggest issues on either motor is the valve lash (setting) . They should be .004" at TDC cold for golf course use and .006 for running around all day. Probably a good idea to replace the cam belt and make sure the cam timing is correct.
