Won't start after attaching lights

I mounted headlights on the cowl and wired the light switch to the red lead on the main switch because it had 12 volts. The lights worked and the cart started. After driving about a 100 yards, the lights went out. The cart was still running but when I stopped after returning to where I started, the cart would not restart. Not even a click! I un-wired the light switch and the cart would still not start. Is it possible that I blew the fuse? The cart is a G1 1984 I believe.

check all the fuses in the system, I believe there are 2, and try to find somewhere else to wire the lights, I put mine right on the battery and it works fine.

Mine are also wired to the battery, I agree check the fuses.
