G9 barely turns over

I have a yamaha G9 which barely turns over when the gas pedal is pressed. The battery had died so I replaced that but it still acts like it's not getting power. Guessing it's an electrical problem and reading other posts I'm trying to determine where the issue is. Using a volt meter there is 12V at the solenoid until I hit the gas, then it drops to 5-6V. Suggestions?

Check the connections, while the motor is turning over, feel all the wires and cables for any wires that get really hot. You may have a bad connections somewhere.
