  • F-R switch

Hi guy's new to forum this will be my first post. I have a 93 G8EJF3 with a bad forward-reverse switch. Can this switch be replaced with any other make or model switch? This is the only year this part seems to be triple the cost of similar switches. Thank's for any help.

Exploring alternative options especially if the cost of the original is unexpectedly high is understandable. While finding an exact replacement might be preferable, you could potentially explore switches from other makes or models. You can swap it out with a switch from a newer yamaha like the G9 or G14. Thing is, the contacts on those newer switches are reversed compared to what you've got in your G8e. It's doable, but you'll likely need to tweak the wiring or make some adjustments to get it working smoothly. Inside the switch, there are electrical contacts that correspond to each direction: forward and reverse. When the switch is in the forward position, the contacts are configured to allow electrical current to flow in a way that powers the motor in the forward direction, propelling the golf cart forward. Conversely, when the switch is in the reverse position, the contacts are rearranged to reverse the flow of current, causing the motor to rotate in the opposite direction, thus moving the cart in reverse.

While the basic principle remains the same, allowing the driver to select between forward and reverse modes, the layout and operation of alternative switches can differ. Some carts feature simple lever switch that physically shifts between forward and reverse positions, while others implement rotary switches for directional control. Furthermore, the orientation of the switches can vary. In some cases, moving the lever to the right signifies forward movement, while in others, this orientation may be reversed or swapped.

You could also consider looking into options from the Ezgo TXT HD Switch, though be aware that this might involve some hole drilling. If you decide to go down that route, feel free to reach out if you need any further assistance or guidance
