1994 Marathon running slow

1994 Marathon, I believe , has been running slow for some time now. Dont use the cart that often. Just around the yard. May go a week without using. Try to keep up with keeping the batteries topped off. 36v. and batteries always seem to show a good charge when I check them. Batteries are maybe 2 years old. I notice the cart does run a little stronger/faster on the street than the grass,but just not the speed/ duration I would think it does. I am planning to increase the wire size and see if that will help. Any ideas?
