    Hello! I need help understanding a maintenance/repair issue on Club Car. For context, we bought a used golf cart about a year and half ago that was in great shape and this is our first experience with bringing it in somewhere to be fixed. We noticed our golf carts alignment was off, so we had it brought in to be fixed. We also asked them to do a full check over on everything else to make sure it was still good (breaks, batteries, etc). They called to say alignment and front bushings needed to be replaced, but everything else looked great, they loved our cart, awesome! We were expecting it to be done today, and they called to say that bushings were replaced and alignment completed and while they took it for a test drive, it began to smell like something was burning and the cart cut off. He looked and the resistor was red hot and almost on fire. He said he removed the resistor because it wasn't even necessary and he doesn't know if just that was issue, or if it is the solenoid or controller or motor (which all sound expensive). He is giving it a full charge overnight, and will try another test drive tomorrow (does this method of troubleshooting make sense). We do not know anything about this stuff, but we've had no issues and this comes up while in their possession, is this just bad timing, or does it seem like something was not replaced correctly when doing a check thru? Is it possible the cart cut off and it's not a bigger issue (please)? Really nervous about this being a major repair when we thought it was going in for routine maintenance. (It's been an expensive week, we literally had our A/C motor go out AND a leak under our kitchen sink.. When they called with bushing and alignment news and that everything else looked great, we celebrated because everything else was going WRONG, UGH). Thank you in advance!

    The burning smell and the resistor becoming red hot could indicate an electrical issue. While removing the resistor might prevent further overheating, it's vital to identify the root cause of this problem. The technician's plan to give it a full charge and conduct another test drive makes sense as it might help them observe any immediate issues that arise during operation.

    In terms of whether this was an issue that existed prior to the maintenance, it's hard to determine without more context. However, if you've not experienced any issues with the cart before and this occurred while it was in their possession, it's reasonable to question if something went amiss during their work.

    While nervousness is understandable, it might be best to await the results of their test drive before drawing any conclusions. If further issues do surface, it might be worth discussing with the technician what steps they took during the maintenance and what might have triggered this sudden problem.
