  • 1986 Club Car problem with moving when key is off

My cart does not respond when the key is switched off. The only thing that stops it from moving is to put it in neutral. Any ideas where to look? Thanks.

It might be worthwhile to examine the forward/reverse switch. Sometimes, a faulty switch can cause this unexpected movement. There might be an intermittent short or connection issue within the switch mechanism, allowing power to flow even when the key is off. Consider inspecting the wiring associated with the key switch itself. It's possible there's a faulty connection within the circuit, allowing power to bypass the key switch and continue powering the cart.

Lastly, check the wiring around the motor and controller for any signs of wear, fraying, or loose connections. Sometimes, vibrations or wornout insulation can cause unintended electrical connections, leading to the cart moving even when it shouldn't.
