  • charger voltage (no load)

I just replaced the diodes in a Lester model 8714 charger (36 volt). I measured voltage at output plug at 70 volts (no load). This seems high for a 36 volt charger. Battery voltage with charger plugged in (and charger "on") read 38 volts (batteries about 75% charged). Should I be concerned about the 'no-load' voltage? Thanks.

yes does seem high keep it charging all day and check the voltage every hour batteries should charge somewhere between 2.25 to 2.6 volts per cell, also check your meter on a 1.5 volt new battery it should read about 1.52 to 1.55.

Chargers plug into AC but not the cart will read high like that. There is no resistants in the line.

Thanks for the response(s). I suspected the high voltage was due to "no load" but I wasn't sure. The charger works fine when hooked to the cart.
