The difference between the oil is the warm thickness. 10W-30 oil is thinner than 10W-40 oil. Both oils are fine to run in your golf cart. I suggest when operating your cart in cold weather conditions (below freezing) use 10W-30 oil. If you are operating in hotter temperatures (90 degrees F. and above) stick to the 10W-40 oil.

Let’s take 10W-30 as an example. 10W is the cold viscosity (thickness) of the oil. 30 is the operating (heated) thickness of the oil. As oil warms up it becomes thinner.
