  • Western 42 volt won't move- has new batteries in it

Just came across a 42 volt western cart that had been sitting for over a year.

I don't know what year it is, but this is the number stamped in it :

    40010020726

We put new batteries in it, charged the batteries, and it will not move. all the lites, blinkers, horn and reverse bell work, but no movement at all.

Can someone please help me troubleshoot this thing?

First of all, what year is the cart?

Does anyone have the manual they can send me?

What are the steps you advise to start trouble shooting this problem?

    Thanks

It is a model 400 built in Oct 2000.
The Western Owner's manual and wiring diagram is here: Western Owner's Manual
It is probably a series cart, is the F/R switch down by your right knee?
Does the solenoid engage when the key is on and throttle depressed?
What is the voltage measured at the charge receptacle? If the batteries are hooked up correctly it should be abut 44.6v.
Does the battery charger come on when you plug it in?
Is it a Lester charger or a Delta-Q?

Doug Thanks for responding. I will find out all that info. The cart is over at the customers place, about 20 minutes away.

I will get the info and post it back here.

      Thanks again

I have a 42 volt Western golf cart. 1995 model year and I believe a series 400. The batteries are good and have tested both the micro switch and the reostat switch right below it and both test fine. My issue is that the cart runs fine at 1/4 throttle in forward and reverse but depressing the throttle any more causes the cart to go dead. Do you have an answer as to why I am having this problem. I am hoping it is not the controller. The forward and reverse switch is also fine
